Chaucer does not approve of the Monk. He believes that the monk is more concerned with physical objects and the enjoyment of life over God and worship. The Monk rides fine horses and has greyhounds for hunting purposes. Chaucer believes that the Monk lives a more lavished life then a holy man should.
